Certificate II in Telecommunications Technology


Telecommunication is an industry that is constantly evolving; new technology is impacting on our lives in ways never before imagined. It is an industry that provides us with the ability to communicate with people at all levels and from all over the world – and it will continue to evolve in ever more exciting ways. In this program, you’ll gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of indoor and outdoor installation, operation and maintenance of domestic, commercial and industrial telecommunication equipment and products. This program suits new entrants with limited industry experience. You’ll get to do extensive practical work in a simulated commercial environment while learning the theoretical knowledge about cabling rules. You’ll also be trained to use typical commercial telecommunications equipment, in preparation for future employment. Successful completion of a course in telecommunications may enhance your current employment and may open up new work opportunities for you in the telecommunications industry. This qualification prepares individuals for entry into the industry.

To achieve a Certificate II in Telecommunications Technology 15 units must be completed including 6 core units and 9 elective units.

Course Duration / Method of Delivery

The Certificate II in Telecommunications Technology is delivered over 12 months. Training and assessment will be delivered in weekly classroom sessions at the school.

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) Program

The VETiS program is funded by the Queensland Government to give eligible students funding to complete one Certificate 1 or II level qualification while attending secondary school.

VETiS qualifications can be undertaken in years 10, 11 and 12, and can count towards the Queensland Certificate of Education.

Aurora Training Institute is a Pre-Qualified Supplier under this program for the delivery of this Certificate II qualification.

Every student that completes or discontinues a VET in Schools course must complete a Student Training and Employment Survey within 3 months


There are no fees applicable for this course for eligible students undertaking VETiS training in a school environment

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to enrol in the VET in Schools program, you must:

• Currently enrolled in secondary school in either year 10, 11 or 12 and;

• Be a Queensland resident permanently residing in Queensland i.e. an Australia Citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen

• Not have previously completed or currently be enrolled in a Certificate III level qualification (or higher)*

*Certificate III Qualifications completed at secondary school are not counted
