Course Requirements

Individual Support students are required to complete 7 core units and 6 elective units, as well as 120 hours of vocational placement work to attain their certificate.

As part of your coursework and placement, students will require:

● A Police Check.
● Blue/Yellow Card (depending on chosen work placement).
● First Aid Certificate.
● Latest vaccinations outlined by the workplace or relevant State or National Government Health Authority to complete vocational placement.

Specialise in Certificate III Disability Support QLD & Aged Care Support

Students studying a Certificate III in Individual Support have the option to specialise in a Certificate III Disability Support or Aged Care Support in QLD.

Core units for each specialisation include:

  • CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support.
  • CHCCCS023 Support independence and wellbeing**.
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services.
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people.
  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically.
  • HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems.
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.

**120 hours of work placement is required for completion of this unit

Students can then select their specialisation to complete their 6 elective units.

Aged Care Support Units

Attaining a CHC33015 — Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) can help you in your career as an:

Completing a CHC22015 — Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) will allow you to lead a fulling career as a:

  • Community care worker.

 

Students will be required to complete the following specialised units:

  • CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  • CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  • CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

Certificate III in Individual Support Cost

Students at Aurora have access to a number of flexible payment options. At the Aurora Training Institute, Some students are eligible to receive Queensland Government funding under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program. As students can only access this funding once, it is essential you consider if this career pathway is the right option for you.

 

Course Funding Through the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program

The Certificate 3 Guarantee Program is a government subsidy towards training costs for eligible students completing a Certificate III level qualification, such as the CHC33015 — Certificate III in Individual Support.

Under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program, there is a Student Contribution Fee of $2 per unit with a total cost of $25 (concessional and non-concessional). This fee covers the total cost to the student to enrol, undertake training and be awarded qualification, and must be paid prior to the commencement of the course.

To receive government funding under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program students must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or be a temporary resident with the temporary the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
  • Be a permanent resident of Queensland.
  • Be aged under 15 years of above.
  • No longer be at school (unless VET-in-school student).
  • Not be enrolled or having completed a Certificate III (or higher qualification), not including school-based qualifications.
